Dump the Junk (Junk Food that is)

Today I’m going to dole out a little tough love, so brace yourself and know that this is for your own good.

It’s time that we had an uncomfortable little talk about a very important issue…

That junk food in your house.

You know the stuff that I’m talking about. The ice cream jammed into the back of your freezer. The packaged cookies that you say are for the kid’s lunches. The candy stash that’s leftover from the last few holidays. Those bags of crunchy, salty snacks in your pantry. The bottles of soda that you know you shouldn’t drink. And the list goes on…

Here’s the bottom line: If you eat junk food then you’ll get fat. Junk = Fat.

Now I know that you have justified the presence of junk food in your house, so let’s walk through these justifications and I’ll shine some truth on it for you.

1) It’s For The Kids: This is the oldest excuse in the book when it comes to keeping junk food in the house. It’s flawed for many reasons, namely because you know you eat some of it. When junk is in the house you are bound to eat some of it at times. And your kids should NOT be eating junk food on a regular basis, such as in their lunches. It’s not good for them and it’s not good for you.

2) I Didn’t Buy It: Oh, I didn’t buy it. My in-laws, friend, sister, kids, spouse bought that. OK, it’s still in your house. I understand why you may be hesitant to throw out food that someone else gave you, but look at the big picture. By throwing junk out of your house you are protecting your health and the healthy of everyone who lives under your roof. That’s huge!

3) A Little Bit Won’t Hurt: When you keep junk food in the house you’re fooling yourself if you think that you only eat a little bit of it. The contents of your kitchen become the things that you habitually eat. If there’s junk in the house then you habitually are eating it, and a little bit of junk every day adds up to a LOT of junk over a week or month. And you wonder why you haven’t lost the weight yet…

4) It’s My Favorite: I understand that there may be junk foods that you’ve become so used to eating that it’s hard to imagine going a day or more without it. In this case, you really need to cut the junk out in order to achieve your ideal health and fitness level. Birthdays, holidays, and special occasions are the time to have a taste of your old favorite junk. And after you’ve stopped eating it daily you may find that it doesn’t even taste as good as you remember.

5) Life’s Too Short: YOLO, right? (You Only Live Once) If this is your excuse for having junk food in the house, then I’ve got a new one for you. YOLO, so why not live that life in a healthy, fit, attractive body that’s full of energy, free from aches and pains and looks amazing?! Being fit and healthy is so much more rewarding that eating a favored junk food every day. Nothing tastes as good as fit and healthy feels.

Now it’s time for you to take action. All you need is a big black trash bag and the determination to be fit and healthy. Grab that bag, march into your kitchen and start pitching the junk.

Look for anything in a package that contains processed sugar, grains and high amounts of sodium. Go get ‘em!

Wheeew! Didn’t that feel great? Your kitchen is now wholesome and healthy, and your body will be too.

Eating a healthy diet, free from junk, is one side of the equation when it comes to getting into amazing shape. The other side is consistent, challenging exercise.

Magical Nutrient – Sported Lower Levels of Body Fat

A recent study from the American Dietetic Association revealed that even though two groups of individuals ate the same amount of calories, individuals who at 30% more of one particular nutrient sported lower levels of body fat while the other group was clinically overweight and/or obese. Ouch!

What’s this magical nutrient? Well, it’s found in foods like:

  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Berries
  • Beans
  • Avocado
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Brown Rice
  • Artichokes
  • Sprouted Grain Bread
  • Oatmeal
  • Quinoa
  • Peas
  • Broccoli

And a ton of other foods…

The nutrient is fiber, and I highly suggest getting your fair share (~30 grams a day) ’cause it packs a ton of benefits like:

  • slowing digestion and gastric emptying to support stable blood sugar levels and decreased insulin output (this means more fat loss)
  • signaling the release of hunger crushing hormones supporting feelings of fullness and appetite control
  • promoting weight control independent of calorie intake (as the ADA study revealed)

Basically, it’s one of those super nutrients that you should be aiming to consume with every meal, and it’s found in abundance in most fruits, vegetables, and whole grains…so stock up, and eat up!

Fiber is also a critical nutrient in helping you stay “regular”.

You see, constipation is not simply “not being able to go”, or only eliminating once a week…that’s severe constipation. The truth is, a healthy digestive system should be eliminating after every meal.

Are you going to the bathroom twice a day If not, you are suffering from constipation, which will cause a buildup of toxins and undigested, rotten, putrid food in your digestive system.

This can make it much harder for you to lose fat while also wreaking havoc on your digestive system and overall health…really bad stuff. Just imagine all that rotted, disgusting food sitting there in your digestive system…yuck!

Venus and Serena Lead US Fed Cup Team to Victory

The United States beats Sweden 3-2 in the Fed Cup World Group playoffs.

Serena Williams won both of her singles matches.  Venus Williams was a last minute substitute for Sloan Stephens who lost her singles match on the first day.  Venus Williams beat Johanna Larsson 6-3, 7-5 to clinch the tie 3-1.  Once victory for the United States was guaranteed, the Swedes won the doubles match in a walkover to make the final score 3-2.

This is only the second time since 2007 that both Williams sisters have played in a Fed Cup Tie.

The Quick Way is NOT the Best Way

Lose weight quick…
Meet someone quick…
(fill in the blank) quick….

WTH…

Whatever happened to falling in love with the PROCESS.

Before you want to succeed in ANYTHING you have to fall in love with the PROCESS.

Let me explain…

It’s a known fact that lottery winners who win millions of dollars wind up broke again.  And people who earned millions lost it, have no problem getting it back.

The difference? One learned the process and the other one didn’t.  Sure you can do:

The HCG diet, the crack doctor pill diet, cabbage diet, etc…..

But sooner or later you have to learn the PROCESS of the healthy lifestyle.

Might as well face the music NOW.

Move more, eat better and do it consistently.  If you can’t sustain it, don’t do it.  And if you’re the kind that says I don’t have time then please unsubscribe from my list in the link below. Can’t deal with that.

45 minutes-1 hour/day is 1/24th of your time. Get a grip)

Let me ask you a few serious questions?

Do you have kids? What kind of grades/effort do you expect of them? Do you ask want them to be resilient, hard working and strive for excellence?

Of course you do…

So now this is the hard part.

Why are you FLUNKING at YOUR health and fitness?

You have to lead by example.

Just like you have for your kids, we have expectations for our clients.  You want the best for your kids and we want the best for our clients.  Isn’t it time for you to get some extra “fitness tutoring.”  Let me know if you’re willing to do your part.  I am willing to do mine.
