All Top Seeds Ousted from the Australian Open

It’s been since 2008 that a grand slam final didn’t feature either Federer or Nadal.  But that is what’s going to happen in the 2011 Australian Open this weekend.

Nadal suffered a hamstring tear in his quarter final match against David Ferrer.  In true superhuman fashion, Nadal finished the match and even gave Ferrer a run.  But in the end he lost in three sets ending his sites on a achieving a grand slam (winning all 4 grand slams in a row).

Federer lost in the semi finals to the third seed, Novac Djokovic, in three sets.  Djokovic’s movement and outstanding shot making made him the better player yesterday.

The news is similar on the women’s side.  Wozniacki succumbed to Li Na who made history by becoming the first Chinese tennis player to make it the singles final of a Grand Slam.

The second seed, Vera Zvonareva, looked like she never came to the party losing to the number three seed Kim Clijsters in straight sets.

So who is going to come out the victor… tune in this weekend!  Check out tennis TV listings.
